Le Refuge Artist Residency
We are excited to announce the award-winning international artist Daniel Kathalynas, as the first 2050Community LeRefuge
Daniel is a mixed media artist who has exhibited at the US Embassy in Rome, the National Art Center in Tokyo, and extensively throughout Virginia and the wider US. Daniel studied Fine Art at Keystone College, and upon moving to NYC at 20, he studied music at Brooklyn College.
Born into a blue-collar drug and alcohol addled community in Scranton, PA, Daniel quickly followed his family down a dark spiral. At age 16, during 11th grade Spanish Class, Daniel came out from a haze to hear the teacher speak of Picasso’s “Guernica”. The painting resonated and influenced him with its brutal struggle within and Daniel’s own awakening to a warlike environment around him.
Daniel practices “First Thought Creation” and uses the first higher meditative thought to instruct his creative move either in painting, sculpture, or filmmaking. Daniel’s fluid conceptualism and out-of-the-box process will be a fundamental ingredient of the residency, where curated collaborations will endeavor to challenge assumptions and limitations.
